Welcome to the Bell Inn

Although some Historians believe the French may have bui1t the building as a trading-post in the 1700’s
construction can only be documented to 1811, shortly after the arrival of the Yorkshire settlers. Regardless, with its walls over 2 1/2 feet thick, it still has the honour of being the oldest stone building in New Brunswick. The weekly stagecoach would arrive with the mail and passengers on route from Halifax to Saint John and Miramichi. Horses were rested, mail sorted, and passengers chatted with the locals after a hearty meal.

The stagecoach has disappeared, but since 1986 we have still offered traditional country fare in these historic rooms.
The building has been restored to resemble an inn of that period. Currently the building contains a restaurant cited in "Where to Eat in Canada".  It is renowned for its hospitality and warmth.  Previous uses for the building were as a post office, lodging house, and tavern.
